News from White Shark Africa in Mosselbay South Africa
So what’s going down in Mossel Bay? Since last November, Marine and Coastal Management extended White Shark Africa’s operational area to include two additional chumming sites further east along the coast. This was done after extensive research which revealed that the sharks were spending the winter months around the Seal Island in the bay and the summer months a little further along the coast towards the Grootbrak River.
Since this extension came into effect, White Shark Africa has had only two trips where sharks were not sighted which makes Mossel Bay the best area in the world to encounter great white sharks. This has also allowed White hark Africa to expand its operations to include a Student Educational Program which is a dedicated shark research and conservation department. The SEP is managed by Mike Ladley who has been part of the team since 1998 and its primary objectives are to tag a number of local shark species, record a list of data and promote shark conservation. The program is open to marine biology, zoology and media students wishing to acquire hands on experience in the world of sharks.
As of the end of May 2010, White Shark Africa will be running its new filming department which includes video recordings of daily shark cage diving excursions. Clients embarking on the shark dives will now be able to purchase a DVD of their exiting great white shark experience.
With the looming soccer world cup just days away, White Shark Africa has located to larger and more comfortable premises and has also fitted new engines to the dive boat. All these improvements are aimed at making the shark trips that much more enjoyable for the clients.
Contact info@bookcapetown.com for more information and bookings.

The name Sabi Sabi has long been synonymous with excellent cuisine and fine wines. In the 1980′s the lodges hosted their first series of gourmet weekends, bringing master chefs as guest cooks to prepare wonderful theme meals, while at the same time showcasing the best of South African wines. For many years since those memorable weekends, Sabi Sabi has boasted its own in-house master chef at each of our four lodges. Each of these fabulous chefs has his own distinct style and flair, but all create the finest dishes using the best of fresh local ingredients.
A testament to the superb cuisine prepared at Sabi Sabi was the recent visit to the reserve by the BBC’s ‘Cooked in Africa’ television series. Celebrity chef and cookbook author Justin Bonello has been travelling around the country and cooking with the most celebrated chefs in South Africa, and Sabi Sabi participated in the cooking show, which will be aired on BBC later in the year. During the visit, which featured Earth Lodge, Bonello honed his skills with our Executive Chef and the two shared advice and cooking tips, to the delight of Earth Lodge guests.
Sabi Sabi is also well known for its excellent selection of both local and imported wines. Each lodge has an impressive wine and spirit collection: with Earth Lodge being home to a magnificent underground wine cellar that has over 6000 bottles of fine and rare wines.
In order to ably advise our guests, senior lodge staff undergo wine courses, and most recently, two members of the Sabi Sabi team, Lawrence Khoza and Million Khoza traveled to the heart of the South African wine industry to go through some specialized training. While there they spent time with fellow wine enthusiasts and had the opportunity of enjoying some sightseeing in the beautiful Cape surrounds.
Meals at Sabi Sabi are a sensory delight of taste buds and palate, with enthusiastic and trained staff always on hand to ensure that guests enjoy a delicious culinary experience.
